Toyota calls 2018 C-HR a "shift in the CUV paradigm," and variably a work of "stunning style, driving dynamics and versatility," curvaceous, urban "avant-garde," a "bold, outgoing" Distinctive Diamond design giving over to a "modern, comfortable" MeZONE cabin plush with soft-touch materials and with the quiet ride made possible by an acoustic noise-reducing front windshield. These elements of sports car influence seem more than just notes.
Deputy Chief Engineer and "die-hard racer" Hiro Koba might agree. He helped design C-HR, and tune it on the Nurburgring racing circuit, to be a "blend of comfort, control, consistency, and responsiveness." The CUV's aerodynamic features bear this out, from a 0.34 drag coefficient, rear quarter panel canards, and front and rear spats to a streamlined rear lower bumper, stabilizing fins and rigid undercovers. C-HR can even claim 60.6-inch front and rear tracks, matching it exactly to the like Toyota 86 sports car spec. And with standards like 18-inch alloy wheels, comfort-customizing dual-zone climate control, bucket seating practically bespeaking a racer, and a crystal-clear 7-inch audio display, C-HR surely speeds toward victory.
But Toyota went the extra mile when it equipped C-HR with a Safety Sense P™ (TSS-P) system. It's a suite of safety features to all but plunge one into the intelligent driving experience -- and the only anticipated instance of tech like this in the segment. With it, C-HR can detect and alert you to other nearby vehicles and pedestrians, automatically apply brakes to help avoid them, help you remain in-lane using small corrective steering inputs during unintentional drift, adjust your speed to keep safe pre-set distance from other, lower-speed vehicles, and even automatically switch between high and low beams to light the road ahead when ambient conditions vary.
