Toyota wowed yet again with a March 13 press release out of Torrance, CA promising some cool new upgrades to 2017 Toyota 86. They'll take the form of a limited-minting, late-March release, called the 860 Special Edition, and we at Classic Toyota are revving our engines in anticipation.
There's already much to love in the sporty 2017 Toyota 86 base, from a zippy 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder DOHC engine offering 205 horsepower and up to 156 lb-ft of torque to get up and go round Galveston, to a rear-wheel drivetrain with paddle shifter-equipped 6-speed auto transmission showcasing Dynamic Rev Management for underfoot solidity and a smooth ride. 6-way driver and 4-way front-passenger seats with integrated headrests and knee cushions deliver those touches of comfort conducive to sport driving, and the accompanying road mix pounds through 86's 8-speaker Pioneer audio system. And she's not without style to match, 17-inch twisted-spoke alloy wheels, front fender-mounted vortex generators and 86 badge and chrome-tipped dual exhaust to complement a rear bumper lower diffuser bespeaking aerodynamics. These are just a few of 86's aspects.
The 2017 860 Special Edition, however, looks to take 86 to a veritable "87," and beyond, starting with Halo White and exclusive Supernova Orange hue options with black body stripe contrast to draw attention to a unique aerodynamic underbody panel and rear spoiler, 17-inch alloy wheels and piercing LED fog light style accents. Inside the cabin, a 4.2-inch multi-information panel displays G-force meter, stop watch, horsepower, torque curve, engine coolant and oil temperature and mpg metrics for easy perusal from heated front seats, the latter's contrasting black leather with orange stitching extending race car-like visual cues to the leather-trimmed steering wheel, shift boot and parking brake lever. 860 Special Edition's got more than a few convenience and premium perks, too, including smart key with push-button start, touch-activated door unlock capability, and a dual-zone automatic climate control to create a custom cabin, just to start.
Our 7802 Broadway St. showroom here in Galveston, TX has just the 2017 Toyota 86 model you need to experience what it's like to drive a true roadster while we await the big reveal. Stop by and see us today, and we'll be glad to put you behind the wheel for a test drive.
