When Toyota unveiled the 2017 Prius Prime, it also unveiled a host of new features and even a new four-seat layout. Did Toyota forget about the middle seat? No, it was purely intentional. Read on to learn why.
"As Nathan Kokes, Toyota's brand manager for advanced technology vehicles, told us back in April when the Prime was unveiled, giving the Prime only four seats was important for the car's overall efficiency," reports the staff at AutoBlog. "If the rear were to seat three across, the car would need to have more reinforcing material and its 3.3-kW charger would need to be moved. Those changes are possible, and Koji Toshiyama said he's ready to make them happen."
Just when you were going to get comfortable without the middle seat, Toyota announces that it's ready to add the fifth seat back in the second-generation Prius Prime. Whether you prefer a four- or five-seat layout, looks like you'll soon have the option for both.
